Red, puss-filled bumps!
The running joke when I signed up for my first Ironman last year was, "weird stuff happens to your body." Through blistered feet, bruising toe nails, random colds, increased appetite, and bizzare injuries, this Sunday I have experienced the "WEIRDEST" thing of all-- red, puss-filled bumps!
These bumps developed in the duration of a 20 mile run in the heat with new running shorts that had not been pre-washed rubbing against my skin (someone elses funk who had tried them on previously). The funk, heat, sweat, and rubbing caused little red PAINFUL bumps on my skin. Later that day after church and lunch, I went to massage envy, and oil inflamed the bumps causing them to puss.
I am sure every male out there is turned on as I re-cap this event. Thankfully, my man loves me unconditionally and nursed me back to health like a champ and adding humor. He washed them, applied tea tree oil, made an appointment at the dermatologist, and made an analogy of what the bumps looked like-- the bun of a BIG MAC! Ew, have not eaten fast food since I was 10years old.
Blistered feet and puss bumps have both caused me to work from home this season. Monday, the bumps were so painful I could not allow clothing to touch my legs. When I called my boss to ask off work, he asked, "do you ever question what you do in your spare time?" Wow, the weird things that happen to our bodies....
I have to take 5 days off from workouts, and mind you, I am only 3 weeks out from my Ironman. Last year I would have been very irritated and deflated. This year my faith is sronger. I will rely on His ability to compete and not my own. Plus, I had a great doctor and supportive friends loving on me! So gross, and so hilarious at the same time.
PS: I have pictures and am not brave enough to post them!
